PREPAREDNESS FOR THE ENQUIRY INTO TRUTH:

In Yogavasishta, Lord Rama overwhelmed at the age of 16 by intense dispassion and renunciation is engaged in observing the moving universe with the rapt attention and undisturbed mind. He expresses surprise and concern at the cosmic flux in which everything is born for dying and everything is dying only to be born again. He develops intense aversion and detachment to his kingdom, royal comforts and questions himself to know "Who am I? Where from have I come? Where am I going to?" Similarly, Lord Buddha at the very early age of 20 years was not allowed to move out of the royal palace and see the world outside for the reason that the parents were afraid that he would not be the future king, but would be a sanyasi as per the astrological predictions of the priests. On the day, on which Buddha goes out of the palace and sees directly the dead person being carried to the funeral, the old and weak walking feebly with the help of a stick, etc. immediately he was struck with abject dispassion, renunciation and aversion to the on going life and ran away in the dead of night to the secluded forest with the determination to know the truth behind the entire apparent play of the world.
