THE PROCESS LEADING TO REALISATION :
As we have discussed so far the Supreme Self, static and transcendent in nature, assumes downward movement and descends to the gross empirical world. In course of this evolution the same Self passes through limitations of time, space and cause and is covered by very many layers of matter. Finally, the same Self assumes the ego sense at the level of the mind of the individual and is identifying itself with each and every relation and activity with the external world. At this stage, it is subjected to the vagaries of pain, pleasure and fear. Therefore, the same Self, which is the purest untainted has descended in the mind of the individual as totally apparent and limited.
On the big tree there liveth two friendly beautiful birds of golden plume; one sitting at the top always serene and blissful looking down as a witness on the glory of the tree; the second descending, hopping from branch to branch seizes fruits of variety from the tree and enjoys a sumptuous feast of delicacies and mouthing for more; comes across a bitter fruit and tasting it develops aversion and distaste; oblivious of the bitterness, again it runs after the fruits of the tree and grapples this time the bitterest fruit, tasting which the bitterness permeated through out the body; poor bird cannot shake it off and retrieve itself and feels the very existence shaking and threatening; pausing a while, it looks at its friend sitting at the top and slowly ascending towards the friend finally merges with it and feels the infinite and eternal tranquility.
This is the saga of man on the life tree. In the boyhood he works hard and develops the talent; makes use of his intelligence and effort to achieve the cherished desires; he applies all the energy and intelligence at his disposal, showing high degree of concentration and dynamism; in course of the pursuit he faces failures and reverses again forgetting these things he resumes his activity; he finds the intensity of his failures and pitfalls to such an extent that his hopes are dashed to the ground; he searches all-round; contacts friends, advisers and prays and begs the gods for his retrieval. He finds himself totally at the bottom of hopelessness and despire. He develops aversion and dislike to his own activity and to the object he his pursuing.
Misfortune in very many instances is a great teacher for mankind. Blows of misfortune often bring out, in reaction, a wonderful awakening of the Soul. All troubles and worries we often come across are useful in the future. They awaken our inner self and make open the eyes for the reality. Detachment and renunciation of his own work and his desire have naturally set-in. He looks the other side of the life and questions the purpose of life. His virile hidden effort and dynamism now takes the inner route towards the heart.
EVERY MAN IS BORN IN A CERTAIN CULTURE, RELIGION, THE INFLUENCE OF PARENTS AND FAMILY. SUCH A CULTURE IS PASSIVE SO FAR SPIRITUALITY IS CONCERNED AND THAT CULTURE NEEDS NO CHANGE.
In course of man's active life in the mundane world, the worst calamity he comes across is relevant and it is the indicator, which enables him to look to the other side of the Universe. The supreme calamity indicates the supreme triumph waiting ahead according to the law of nature.
The object of the aspirant here is to catch glimpses of this divinity through his heart and realise the Supreme Truth. Therefore, the master or guru is already there not only for the individual, but also for the entire Universe. It is said the Supreme is the center everywhere with no circumference. When an individual focuses his mind and intelligence for the detection of this divine spark, he realises the same as a center within his own heart and nowhere else. The same divine spark is all powerful to provide necessary guidance to strengthen his effort and determination.
Infinite is the divine in strength and man is already possessed of it. The only requirement is the strongest desire, dispassion discrimination and effort.
